I start all my projects with a healthy dose of discovery. Think of this as the scaffolding and foundation of the project. This is where I will provide technology direction and ensure that the content is ready. I will not push a single pixel or even start thinking about the design unless I know that the content and technical direction of the project has been established. Think of content and strategy as the wheels and engine of a car. There is no car if both or either one are not present.
If it needs to be accessed on the web or on a mobile device, rest assured that I can craft a polished interface for it. Paper and a pen are my preferred tools of trade during the initial phases as I juggle the information architecture of the content and the expected user experience all the time iterating and prototyping; steadily moving ahead with more interactive mediums and finally crafting the desired experience, look and feel of the application.
When it comes to development I normally use Ruby on Rails or ExpressionEngine depending on the needs of the project and the technical direction that was set in the initial phases. I have experience working with both large and small teams, in house teams and telecommuters as well. I’m flexible and can produce the front end design in tandem with the development team or create and hand it over to the development team for integration at a later stage.
